My Simple Skincare Routine in Early Motherhood

In this season of early motherhood, I’m drawn to products that feel grounding rather than overwhelming. Skincare has become less about chasing results and more about creating small moments of steadiness — a way to return to myself in the middle of caring for someone else.

My core routine right now is the Clinique Routine Classics Trio, which includes a cleansing balm, clarifying lotion, and moisturiser. It gives me everything I need in one considered system. The balm feels rich and comforting at the end of the day. The clarifying lotion adds that subtle reset. And the moisturiser is simple, dependable, and easy to press in gently before stepping back into the rhythm of motherhood.

Alongside that, I use Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash 250ml as my fresh morning cleanse — light, awakening, and reliably balancing without feeling harsh on tired skin.

I had previously come across tips on other platforms about double cleansing — using a cleansing balm followed by a foaming wash — particularly for minimising the appearance of pores, which is something I’ve personally struggled with. I do find that this method helps my skin look smoother and more refined when I’m consistent. It doesn’t “get rid” of pores (and I don’t believe anything truly can), but for me, it noticeably reduces how prominent they appear.

That said, I’m not a skincare professional — just sharing what has worked for my own skin in this season. Every face is different.

None of this is elaborate.

It’s five to ten minutes at the sink.
Warm water. Clean skin. Moisturised face.

And in those small, steady motions, I feel composed again — not transformed, not perfected — just gently put back together.

Because sometimes self-care isn’t about stepping away from motherhood.

It’s about tending to yourself within it.
